Palettes & Palates: Book Covers and Wine Bottles

Today’s post is going to be a little different because I’ve been designing up a storm and wanted to take a minute to share a bit of my inspiration process have a little fun.

My mom and I took a casual trip to Whole Foods and Barnes & Noble over the weekend, just to see what caught our eye. I hadn't planned on buying any books, but I have to share some of the covers and wine bottles that completely stopped me in my tracks. Their aesthetics were so compelling, I almost abandoned my 'browsing only' plan.

My enjoyment for book covers is probably a bit self explanatory but I’ll give a little back story into how I find myself in the alcohol department despite not being a big fan of the stuff unless its a special occasion. I worked at a brewery- So I often browse the wine and beer section at the store with no real intention of buying anything. I just like to see if anything catches my eye and what’s currently trending in that market for package design. Now I know from a little experience and just research in general that you really shouldn’t purchase your wine based on the label alone. Some of the best have ancient branding, a testament to their age as a company and experience- but it sure is fun to look!

I’ve decided today I’m going to pair Book Covers and Wine Bottles together based off of nothing in particular other than the fact that they caught my eye in their respective departments and it’s fun to see that my personal taste in design is pretty linear!

This was a lot of fun, and although I based my pairings off of nothing but what caught my eye when I went back and read the book synopsis the type of wines actually aren’t that far off from the book plots and styles!
